THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF WHIPPANY

Meet Christie, our new Choir Director and Organist!

The Session, together with the search committee and the choir, are delighted and blessed to introduce our church family to Christie Ventura. Christie comes to us from Watchung Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield where she has been the beloved music director for 10 years. The search committee and choir were blown away by her talent for teaching and playing, and her energy, kindness, faith, and fun-loving spirit. She brings to us a love of music of all kinds, an almost life-long study of the organ, and impeccable organization skills. Christie will begin her ministry with us after Easter. You can read more about her in her bio below.

I want to thank the search committee for the time and talents they faithfully offered to the search: Dick Kitchell, Chris Kuhl, Elisa Fries, Joe Andolino, and Irena Kaler. What a gifted team!

And, I look forward to joining you in heartily thanking the wonderful, gifted-beyond measure, generous, caring, Elisa Fries, who on top of her regular commitments has been faithfully serving as our Interim.

A native New Jerseyan, Christie holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from William Paterson University with a concentration in classical piano. She has been serving churches throughout North New Jersey for over 13 years, first as a substitute organist/pianist, then most recently as the Director of Music at a church in Bloomfield. In addition to performing and serving in ministry, Christie has been teaching piano and voice lessons since 2005 and currently is the owner and lead teacher for Bravo Music Academy in Denville, NJ.

With excitement and hope,

Pastor Sarah

Sundays, March 4, 11, 18, 25, 9:15-9:50am

Lent Bible Study

You are invited to take up a spiritual practice during Lent—the practice of daily Bible reading! No knowledge about the Bible is needed. All you need is openness and willingness. Even if you don’t do your readings particularly faithful (!), come on Sunday morning to recharge. We’ll review a reading from the week, talk about the challenges and joys of a daily practice, try out new spiritual practices, and pray. This group is open to people of all ages. Come every week or drop in as the Spirit moves. A schedule of daily Bible readings will be available outside the sanctuary.

Come on Sunday nights to discuss the honest and holy stories from Shauna’s life, and to find support from faith friends for your own frantic life.

Maundy Thursday Worship with Communion and Handwashing

The word Maundy comes from the Latin word mandatum, meaning “command,” and it refers to the new commandment Jesus gives his disciples the night he washes their feet and eats with them for the last time. “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I    have loved you, you also should love one another” (John 13:34). This celebratively somber service includes Communion and Handwashing.

Friday, March 30th, 9:00am

Walk the Stations of the Cross

Meet at the church to carpool to the Loyola Retreat Center to walk around their outdoor Stations of the Cross. The Stations of the Cross depict in beautiful mosaic the last events of Jesus’ life.  FRIENDLY REVELATIONS

‘ROUND THE SQUARE TABLE

as might emanate from personal background
and arise over hot coffee & fresh munchkins, with revelations starting from ---

Where did you come from?
Who were you there?

Are you somebody now?
'ROUND THE TABLE & JUST FOR FUN

AND for our April gathering on 04/14, Chuck Parr and Ron Cattafi of the Session's Property Committee will offer a summary of current projects and future needs foreseen, especially the never-ending maintenance of our 184-year old sanctuary, one of the oldest and finest large wooden structures still standing in Morris County.

As always, the floor of our Men's (after) Breakfast gatherings is open to VOLUNTEERS to share topics of common interest throughout the coming year, and to facilitate our monthly gatherings, and to recruit speakers who might have interesting topics for our second-Saturday morning discussions.

Guests and visitors are always welcome at our gatherings which feature adult education, fun, coffee, and informal 'round-the-square-table discussion.  So, bring a friend or a neighbor along to share the good news and the Christian fellowship.

And please mark your calendar now for March 10 and April 14.
